(I'm a producer for SGRR).

Zen Buddhist-indie rocker Stuart Davis is launching a new comedy series: Sex, God, Rock 'n Roll. Season One of of this ground-breaking tv show debuts April 26 on HDNet across the U.S. and Canada. Sex, God, Rock 'n Roll is written, directed, and hosted by Stuart Davis, and features edgy humor from the open-hearted maniac. Each episode follows Stu performing stand up comedy, news, sketches, and his acclaimed music. A twisted mind and a sensitive soul, Davis has made a career out of parsing tricky topics, and Sex, God, Rock 'n Roll finds this 'Punk Monk' at his multi-faceted best.

“We are excited to welcome Stuart Davis and Sex, God, Rock ‘n Roll to HDNet. Stuart is one of a kind, and we are thrilled he is on HDNet.”
-Mark Cuban, President of HDNet

Davis has studied his heroes (Ricky Gervais, Amy Sedaris, Jon Stewert), but is finding a unique voice with his 'spiritual' brand of comedy. SGR&R is a delirious dive into life's Mysteries through the mind of a Cosmo-centric comedian. It's no wonder Davis has become known as the Twisted Mystic.

"Without exaggeration, Stuart Davis is one of the most fascinating and exceptional songwriters in modern music."
-San Jose Metro

While Davis is a happily hyphenated artist (writer-director-actor-
comedian-songwriter), he's first known for his music. The sound track to Season One of SGR&R ('Songs From The TV Series') is being released simultaneously with the debut of the tv show. The first single, Twisted Mystery, hits radio in April and is also featured on Showtime in the series I Can't Believe I'm Still Single. Davis will be touring nationally through the summer to promote the TV series and the new collection of pop songs.

"Not since Bob Dylan burst through has Minnesota produced such a confident and creative songwriter and social observer."
-Minneapolis Star Tribune

Filmed in HD in front of a live audience in Boulder, Colorado (take that, Mork & Mindy!), SGRR will also have a web-based home at www.sexgodrocknroll.com where fans can find exclusive content for members only. The SGR&R subscription site includes interviews with spiritual figures, unreleased sketches, and regular vlogs from Stu.

"Davis may be the best songwriter you've never heard of."
 -Des Moines Register

Sex, God, Rock 'n Roll airs Sundays on HDNet beginning April 26.

"Davis’s music subtly sneaks religious dialogue into popular culture. Most surprisingly, the music is damn good. Critics, you can sigh with relief."
-Miami New Times

I am pleased to share with you the first video to our short film/month challenge. This video is for Klondike's contest. I would love it if you checked it out and voted for it (and at the same time you have a chance at winning 25K - not too shabby).

Here's the link to vote.

If you have time, we submitted it to another category. Link to vote for that..

We had a blast shooting this and, all in all, it was a great experience. I am really happy with the quality, especially given it's my first time out of the gates:) Everyone I worked was/is amazing. It looks like we have the beginnings of a wonderful crew.

I learned a ton writing and directing this, but most of all working with a time limit - tough stuff! Thank goodness for post in this case.

Credits for the video:

Director, Writer, Music: Ryan Oelke
DP and Editor: Jason Lange
Actors: Scott Cooper Ryan, Tony Vo, Ryan Oelke, Charles Gammill
Production Assistant: Bonnie Arnold
Boom Operator: Charles Gammill
Sound Engineer: Ryan Oelke
Dolly Sound: Richard Frohlich
Special Thanks: Troy Omafray, Niwot Market

This is a fun and irreverent show delving into health issues from an alternative and complementary approach.

Now, it's easy for me to say that this show will be great: I helped develop and produce it:P But, as much as I can give an ubiased opinion, I am very excited about it from a personal stand point. I am very much interested in complimentary health and have slowly been trying out approaches. It's difficult, however, to know what is effective and what is plain crazy, and my experience with Ben and Marco is they do a good job at being critical and fair in their assesments. Also, I love their energy: they're upbeat, humurous, and have a lot of energy.

What is the role of media?

The answer to this question might depend on which type of media you're talking about. I divide media broadly into two types: traditonal/big media and new/niche media. Media is being transformed as we speak and so will the role of media overall.

Media, I think, is actually quite devoid of meaning: it is a technical term, the plural of "medium", and all the various forms that media takes are just vehicles, or mediums, for communication. Media includes so much, good and bad, meaningless and profound. To talk about media in general terms simply misses the point. A better question might be, in what ways can we use media to transform the world?

I understand that it is common for people to mean "news sources" to mean "media", but I'm hereby reclaiming that word:) If we can bring it to its broadest meaning we can begin to see all of the possibilities that media offers us. There were always be media for entertainment and media that appeals to the shallow parts of our minds and souls. So, what? I'm interested in how I can use the different media platforms as vehicles for goodness and transformation. With that in mind, we have moved into a new period in media where new media has arisen in the Long Tail and can have a significant impact on the world. Technology is allowing us to take advantage of media in lightening quick ways that big media can't do, and therefore we can act more quickly in response to the opportunities and problems that we are presented with each day. I plan on writing a more in depth post on this over at Falling Fruit, so stay tuned there and I'd love to hear your thoughts on all of this:)

Hey Zaadsters - Alia from Falling Fruit has created a Wikipedia article for conscious business. We would like to enlist your help in making this article an excellent entry that meets Wikipedia standards and will last scrunity. Conscious business is an important movement and development in the business world, and having an entry on Wikipedia would be an excellent way to provide references for those new to it.

So, if you're passionate about conscious business, passionate about Wikipedia, and/or skilled in writing and editing Wikipedia articles, please take a little time to contribute:)

MindBodyGreen - "It's like DIGG for the LOHAS crowd"

If you're like me, DIGG doesn't really "do it" for you. It works well for the tech crowd, but it sucks something bad for anything outside of that realm, particularly for the LOHAS community. MindBodyGreen is a new site that functions similary to DIGG in that you can submit sites, articles, news, stories, etc. related to mind, body, green. People can then vote submissions up or down, which brings them to front of the pack or buries them.

I'm looking forward to seeing how they do, and if you check them out, be sure to support Falling Fruit if you like what we're doing:) (I've already submitted our two current shows and our site. ABM = Always Be Marketing. See, Casey, we do pay attention to you:)

Hat tip to William Harryman.

I never close my Firefox browswer. Ever. I only restart it when it's getting a little wonky. I generally leave three browser tabs open: GMail, Twitter, and my Falling Fruit GCal. Nowadays, I'm leaving a fourth tab open, my Zaadz page:) I'm finally diving back into the online social world, now that Falling Fruit has finally launched, after about six months of going dark.

GMail and GCal are obvious tabs to keep open: they keep connected and organized. Without them I don't survive.

Twitter is perhaps my favorite way to informally keep in touch with my friends lives. I've written a post on why I think it's useful.

Zaadz is hands down my number one social portal. The people are what's most important to me, and Zaadz user interface and features just keeps getting better and better.

Really, there's another internet portal I use first thing in the morning: Net News Wire. I use the desktop version and this is how I keep in touch with all my blog subscriptions and news feeds.

Pretty much, those comprise my arsenal of basic websites I use, though I have tons more that I use on a regular basis, but I'll save those for another geeky day:)

I can't wait to tell you about the project Lion and I are working on, but you'll have to wait:) Instead, I'll share a super brief run-down of the day.
Today was all about the tech side of podcasting: mics, mic technique, mixers, audio gear, post production techniques, etc. It was lead by Scott Bourne, Alex Lindsay, and Leo Laporte. Much of technique was not new for me, given my background, but I did get the low down on some great gear. It was well done, especially for those new to podcasting, but who are serious about it. Also, we got into a discussion about the production and business side of podcasting, which will be the focus of Friday. That part ROCKED my world. One quote from Leo Laporte:

"We expect BILLIONS of dollars to be invested in podcasting within the next 12 months." (my emphasis)

Meaning, that much invested by advertisers. Whoa. To say the least.

All of these guys are top notch - wicked smart, funny, excellent presenters, and all around great guys (yeah, they're all guys).

There was also a live recording of the podcast, iLife Zone, hosted by Scott Bourne with Alex Lindsay and Leo Laporte as guests. Good times. Tomorrow will cover videocasting techniques, which I'm stoked for, as I know nothing about it, and if it will be like the audio presentations, I will leave with a solid understanding of how to do them. Oh, and there will be a live taping of MacBreak Weekly (I'm thinking it'll be the video edition).

Technorati Tags: podcasting, videocasting, pixel corps, Leo Laporte, Scott Bourne, San Francisco, Alex Lindsay, Gear Media Tech, Zeum Theatre

The hotel is nice. Different, but nice:) I'm extremely tired and think I'm ready for a nap. Here's the breakdown of the conference:

Three-hour sessions, 10-5pm, with an hour lunch break.

30 minutes/subject, followed by 10-20 minutes Q & A.

There's no wifi to be expected. WTF?!! Lame. Doubly lame considering it's a geeky conference.

Tomorrow is all about podcasting.

So, I may not be able to update as often as I had hoped, but minimally I'll post something lunch and evening. At least some photos:) In the meantime, check out more photos of the Mosser hotel.

Technorati Tags: podcasting, videocasting, gmt, pixel corps, San Francisco, Mosser

Whether you are producing audio or video, for phone, web, or mobile device...GMT is a guide to doing this effectively. Lead by some of the industry leaders: Leo Laporte (of TWIT), Scott Bourne, and Alex Lindsay - GMT covers both production techniques and show designs that are key to navigating the next revolution in media.

Three days of training in audio production, video production, and designing your own show, presented by some of the best out there. Scott Bourne announced that there will be some surprise, well-known presenters in addition to the folks listed above.

I am fortunate to be attending due to tremendous kindness of my pal, Lion. We're collaborating on a top secret project(s) that you'll hear more about over the upcoming months, and this seminar provides us with wisdom and experience directly related to what we're doing. Of course, being an audio geek I'll benefit from this in other projects such as Buddhist Geeks. I've also begun doing freelance audio work, so if you're in search of an audio geek, shoot me an email:) Your audio needs as much love as you give to the rest of your website. Consider me your love doctor;)

Oh, and I started RyanOelke.com for my main hub on the web.

You Gotta Eat on Retreat

Well, I've finished most of the nuts and bolts of planning this retreat. I have my blogs in order and my relative life situated for when I'm gone. I

have a wonderful person giving me a ride from the airport when I arrive, to take me to the grocery store, and to do grocery runs while I'm on retreat. The food situation I'm still working on. I'll eat twice a day, with maybe some snacks. That'll be a big change as I'm used to eatting 4-5 meals/day. What to eat is another issue. I want to keep it as simple as possible. Emily had a good idea of trying to prepare food on one day that would last several days/ a whole week.

For breakfast I'm thinking hard boiled eggs, which could be good for the week, cereal, milk, some fruit. For the second meal, some sort of rice goulash. Not sure what.

Some teachings say that certain foods are better while on retreat, and some practices prescribe it. As far as I can tell, I don't have any stipulations, but I do think certain foods will help a practitoner more than others. Live and learn, I suppose.
